how to program excel
Nowadays, Excel is widely used and is almost mandatory for most of the organizations without which it would be impossible to operate for them.
Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet has many functions and according to studies, people can learn all the functions of excel by doing an in-depth analysis which is also called research or Ph.D. in excel.
One of the features of Excel is AXIS. And there are two types of Axis:
Text-based Axis and Date based Axis. In case you are not aware with the process to work in Excel on the Axis and you want to know the step by step guide to it, no worries as we shall try to fulfill all your requirements regarding Axis of Excel here. We are also going to provide here guidelines to the five-step process to Text-based and a four-step process to Date based Axis.
Well, Axis is used for graph representation and there are always ‘X’ axis and ‘Y’ axis in every chart. The axis is for measurement and just to get a fair view of the changes occurred during the years or percentage change and much more.
Charts usually have two axes which are used for categorizing and measuring data. The vertical axis has one more name i.e Value axis and it is the Y-axis. It is always found in graphical charts used for representation purposes. This graph is three-dimension which is 3 D.
Text-based axis as the name denotes is usually based on the information in the text form which is inputted in excel for graphical representation and is used in the education sector, business sector, and companies.
During school days we used to learn graphs in graph book which used to be theoretical as well as the practical which is with numerical information the same implies here. The graphs or the graphical representation is done in many charts or diagram like Pie chart or Pie diagram, Column or Bar diagram, Hierarchy chart, Pivot chart, Line or area chart, Statistic chart, Radar chart also called as waterfall/Funnel/ Stock/ Surface chart, Scatter or Bubble chart.
Whenever the numbers in a diagram or chart have a drastic variation from data to data series, or whenever you are having mixed-type data i.e volume & type of data, plot one or more than one data on a secondary vertical axis or (value axis). The scale of the secondary value axis reveals the value of the associated data series. A secondary axis works well in a diagram which shows a combination of line charts and column. You can see this kind of chart quickly just by changing the chart to a combo chart.
How to Program Excel
Text-based Axis
Step1: Click on the Excel file that consists of your graph and click anywhere on the graph to select it.
Step2: At the top of the Excel window, click on the “Layout” tab, then click the drop-down arrow and choose “X-Axis” from the options.
Step3: Select the “Format Selection” button which is next to the drop-down arrow to continue.
Step4: Click on the icon next to the “Specify interval unit,” then place the cursor to the small text box next to the button.
Type in the interval that you wish to use for the X-axis labels. The first axis label will display, then Excel will skip the labels until the number of the interval, continues on in that pattern.
Step5: Select the text box and enter the same number as the interval unit, leave this at “one” and every tick mark will display on the axis, regardless it has a label or not.
Step6: Close the Format Axis window and apply the changes to the chart.
Date-based Axis
Step1: Click the Excel file where the graph is located and click on the graph.
Step2: At the top of the window, select the “Layout tab” and then click the “Axis” button.
Step3: Choose “More Primary Horizontal Axis Options” from the menu in “Primary Horizontal Axis” that appears. The Format Axis window will open up.
Step4: Select the radio button for the “Major Unit” option. Click on the text box and type in the interval number. Click the drop-down arrow and choose among “Days,” “Months” or “Years,” depending on the type of dates on the axis.
NOTE: If the chart is in a numeric X-axis, the process is almost similar to the “Date” axis process, except you do not need to choose between “Days,” “Months” and “Years.”
Step5: Close the window and apply the axis interval to the graph.
Below, we are going to provide a step by step process on How to change the X-Axis Range in Excel in just Six steps:
How to Change the X-Axis Range in Excel?
Graphs in excel, they are extremely valuable to Convey and analyze and know how to display the data based on columns and rows of information effectively makes them that much more powerful, and forming a chart creates an x-axis and y-axis.
When you create a chart in Excel, for charts where you want to specify the X-axis range, you need to switch to a scatter chart and then select the range.
Below is how:
STEP1: Select a separate X-axis range that lets you use data from anywhere in the workbook.
STEP2: Now Switch to scatter chart and select the chart then pick a scatter chart style from the Insert tab to change the chart type.
STEP3: Press “Edit” to select the separate ranges and open the “Design” tab then press “Select Data.”
NOTE: If you have two side by side columns of data, X-axis data on the left while Y-axis on the right.
Select them and press “OK” to remake the chart using the X-axis range, and skip the below following steps.
Otherwise, if the X-axis data you wish to use isn’t situated directly to the left of the Y-axis data, then press “Edit” in the Legend Entries section.
STEP4: Select the X and Y ranges separately using the Series X Values and Series Y Values fields.
